WELCOME TO PHYSICAL SCIENCE! - Q2
During the first quarter, our seventh and eighth graders explored matter and how it changes. We studied atoms and molecules, mixtures and solutions, physical and chemical changes, and conservation of mass. Through investigations with mystery powders, aluminum foil boats, and chemical reactions, students practiced measuring, organizing data, creating graphs, and using evidence to explain their thinking.
In the second quarter, our focus shifts to energy. Students will explore potential, kinetic, and thermal energy, how energy transfers and changes form, and how people use different energy resources. Investigations and projects will connect these ideas to everyday experiences with motion, heating, cooling, and electricity.
Students will continue developing their scientific reasoning and communication skills. Presentations of Learning (POLs) will provide an opportunity to share their work with families, reflect on their growth, and discuss their next learning goals.
Students have homework EVERY DAY. Homework Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be posted online. Friday homework will be sent home on paper. Parents/guardians/caregivers, please check in with your child/children about their science homework...we're all a team! I send home weekly communication that details what we learned in class during the week, a preview of what we're going to learn the following week, and important dates and deadlines to know. Please read the weekly message each week to stay informed about science class!

¡BIENVENIDOS A CIENCIAS FÍSICAS! Q2
Durante el primer trimestre, nuestros estudiantes de séptimo y octavo grado exploraron la materia y cómo cambia. Estudiamos los átomos y las moléculas, las mezclas y las soluciones, los cambios físicos y químicos y la conservación de la masa. Mediante investigaciones con polvos misteriosos, barcos de papel aluminio y reacciones químicas, los estudiantes practicaron cómo medir, organizar datos, crear gráficas y usar evidencia para explicar sus ideas.
En el segundo trimestre, nos enfocaremos en la energía. Los estudiantes explorarán la energía potencial, cinética y térmica, cómo se transfiere y se transforma, y cómo las personas utilizan diferentes recursos energéticos. Las investigaciones y los proyectos conectarán estas ideas con experiencias cotidianas relacionadas con el movimiento, el calentamiento, el enfriamiento y la electricidad.
Los estudiantes seguirán desarrollando sus habilidades de razonamiento y comunicación científica. Las Presentaciones de Aprendizaje (POLs) les brindarán la oportunidad de compartir su trabajo con sus familias, reflexionar sobre su progreso y hablar sobre sus próximas metas de aprendizaje.
Los estudiantes tienen tarea TODOS LOS DÍAS. Las tareas de los lunes, martes, miércoles y jueves se publicarán en línea. La tarea del viernes se enviará a casa en papel. Padres, tutores y cuidadores: por favor, pregunten a sus hijos sobre su tarea de ciencias... ¡todos formamos un equipo! Envío una comunicación semanal que detalla lo que aprendimos en clase durante la semana, un adelanto de lo que aprenderemos la semana siguiente, así como fechas y plazos importantes que deben conocer. ¡Por favor, lean el mensaje semanal para mantenerse informados sobre la clase de ciencias!
