Mr. Winton

I am grateful for the opportunity to teach Social Studies and help students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers. My background includes many years in the classroom, graduate study in history, and English as a second language education, all of which shape how I support students each day. I value respect, curiosity, and professionalism, and I work hard to create a classroom where students feel encouraged, challenged, and capable of high level thinking. When I am not teaching, I enjoy time with family and friends, reading widely, and continuing to learn. Sharing history with young people is one of my favorite parts of this work. There is nothing quite like watching a student realize that history is more than dates and old documents. Each year, I look forward to helping students explore new ideas and perspectives, and maybe even convincing a few of them that primary sources are actually pretty cool.

Estoy agradecido por la oportunidad de enseñar Estudios Sociales y ayudar a los estudiantes a crecer como lectores, escritores y pensadores. Mi experiencia incluye muchos años en el salón de clases, estudios de posgrado en historia y educación de inglés como segundo idioma, todo lo cual influye en cómo apoyo a los estudiantes cada día. Valoro el respeto, la curiosidad y el profesionalismo, y trabajo para crear un salón donde los estudiantes se sientan animados, desafiados y capaces de pensar a un nivel alto. Cuando no estoy enseñando, disfruto pasar tiempo con mi familia y amigos, leer mucho y seguir aprendiendo. Compartir la historia con los jóvenes es una de mis partes favoritas de este trabajo. No hay nada como ver a un estudiante darse cuenta de que la historia es más que fechas y documentos antiguos. Cada año espero ayudar a los estudiantes a explorar nuevas ideas y perspectivas, y tal vez convencer a algunos de que las fuentes primarias son en realidad bastante interesantes.

My expectations are simple and consistent. I expect students to treat themselves, their classmates, and their teacher with respect. I expect them to engage with primary and secondary sources, ask thoughtful questions, and practice clear and confident writing. I expect families to stay connected and communicate when support is needed. In return, students can expect me to provide structure, encouragement, and meaningful learning experiences that build both skills and confidence. Each year is a new chance to grow together, think deeply, and understand the world more clearly. I consider it a privilege to guide students through history and help them develop the tools they need to succeed. And yes, I fully plan to nerd out with them along the way. Learning is always better when everyone embraces their inner historian.

Mis expectativas son simples y consistentes. Espero que los estudiantes se traten a sí mismos, a sus compañeros y a su maestro con respeto. Espero que trabajen con fuentes primarias y secundarias, que hagan preguntas reflexivas y que practiquen una escritura clara y segura. Espero que las familias se mantengan conectadas y comuniquen cuando necesiten apoyo. A cambio, los estudiantes pueden esperar que yo les brinde estructura, ánimo y experiencias de aprendizaje significativas que desarrollen tanto sus habilidades como su confianza. Cada año es una nueva oportunidad para crecer juntos, pensar con profundidad y entender el mundo con mayor claridad. Considero un privilegio guiar a los estudiantes a través de la historia y ayudarlos a desarrollar las herramientas que necesitan para tener éxito. Y sí, planeo disfrutar y aprender junto con ellos en el camino. El aprendizaje siempre es mejor cuando todos aceptan a su historiador interior.
